dreaming of beni ourain

When we got married, not only did I get a husband, but he came with an Italian shag area rug that he is inexplicably attached to.  And as a special compromise, it’s in the living room.

What I dream of is the day when we rotate things around and replace it with a classic Moroccan Beni Ourain rug.  It’s a variety of Berber carpet woven in the Rif Mountains.  There are lots of varieties, but I love the neutral bone hue with simple diamond pattern.  It seems to go with everything from mid-century modern to Scandinavian minimalist to bohemian chic to California coastal…
